What causes Adrenal Crisis?

Adrenal crisis may be caused by:

• Rapid withdrawal from steroid therapy
• Sepsis (bloodstream infection)
• Surgical stress
• Adrenal apoplexy (ie, bleeding into the adrenal glands)
• Pituitary necrosis (damage to pituitary tissue)
• Thyroid hormone replacement in someone with adrenal insufficiency
