A risk factor is something that increases your chance of getting a disease or condition. Risk factors include:

• Alcohol abuse
• Hepatitis infection
• Use of drugs toxic to the liver
• Being overweight
• Diabetes that is poorly controlled
• Ingestion of too much iron
